Steering Committee
The Steering Committee provides overall scientific leadership, direction, and oversight. Its members are responsible for overseeing operations, administration, budget, and interaction with knowledge users. They are accountable for the delivery of the project milestones and the effective administration of the project.
RESHMA AMIN (DR.)
Director
Dr. Reshma Amin is a Paediatric Respirologist and Director of the Long-Term Ventilation at SickKids. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and an Associate Scientist, Child Health and Evaluative Sciences at the SickKids Research Institute. She has over 75 peer-reviewed publications and has received more than $2.2 million dollars in research.
REGINA PIZZUTI
Co-Director
Ms. Regina Pizzuti received her diploma in respiratory and anesthesia technology from Vanier College in Montreal, Quebec and a Baccalaureate of Arts degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Ms. Pizzuti is the Manager of the Ontario Ventilator Equipment Pool (VEP), a position she’s held since program inception in 1994.
MS. FRANCINE BUCHANAN
Patient and Family Member Representative
Ms Francine Buchanan (Principal Director-family caregiver) is the mother of a 6-year-old child dependent on long-term ventilation at home. She is a PhD candidate in Health Services Research at the University of Toronto completing her final year of graduate research focused on Shared Decision Making.
MR. MICHEL PAQUET
eHealth Partner
Mr Michel Paquet (Principal Applicant-eHealth Partner) as a veteran innovator in the technology industry, has experience which ranges from engineering leadership roles at Nortel, IBM Canada, Wind River Systems, and Intel . Michel has dedicated his time, effort and financial resources over the past 4 years to develop a much needed communications and information sharing platform for seniors and patients with complex health care needs.
DR. LOUISE ROSE
Professor of Nursing
Dr. Louise Rose, is a Professor of Nursing at King’s College London, UK. She is also an honorary professor at the Lane Fox Respiratory Unit at St Thomas’ Hospital in London and is the Research Director for the Provincial Centre of Weaning Excellence at the Michal Garron Hospital, Toronto, Canada.
DR. ANDREA GERSHON
Respirologist
Dr Andrea Gershon, is a Respirologist and Senior Scientist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, an Associate Professor at University of Toronto, and the Lung Health Lead at IC/ES, and is an adjunct scientist at SickKids. She has held over 4.5 million dollars in peer-reviewed funds as a principal investigator within the last five years and has over 120 publications.

The Site Leads provide Home Mechanical Ventilation and expert oversight of the participants that are involved at each site.
DR. AARON ST-LAURENT
Site Lead
Dr. Aaron St-Laurent completed his BSc (Hons) at McGill University in Montreal followed by his MD in 2011 at the University of Toronto. He did a four year residency in Paediatrics at BC Children’s Hospital before returning to McGill for a fellowship in Paediatric Medicine which he competed in 2017. He pursued additional training in Paediatric Respiratory Sleep Medicine at Sick Kids in Toronto.
DR. ANU TANDON
Site Lead, Sunnybrook Hospital
Dr Anu Tandon, completed her Internal Medicine and Respirology training at University of Toronto followed by a specialty fellowship in Sleep Medicine. She completed further training in Education by pursuing the Master-Teacher program also at the University of Toronto. Presently she is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, as well as Division Head of Respirology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
DR. AUDREY LIM
Site Lead, McMaster Children’s Hospital
Dr Audrey Lim, is a pediatrician, Medical Lead of the Complex Care program at McMaster Children’s Hospital, and Associate Professor at McMaster University. She completed her MD and Pediatric residency at McMaster University. Dr Lim received fellowship training in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto and BC Children’s Hospital, University of British Columbia. She completed her Masters of Community Health Sciences from the University of Calgary. Her research interest focuses on improving the care and health of children with medical complexity technology dependency.
DR. DAVID LEASA
Site Lead, London Health Services
Dr David Leasa, received his medical degree (1979), and postgraduate training in Internal Medicine (1979-1982), Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (1982-84) at Western University. He was a research Fellow in Pulmonary and Critical Care at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, prior to returning to London in 1985.
DR. DOUG MCKIM
Site Lead, Ottawa Hospital
Dr Doug McKim, is happily married over 35 years, with 3 kids. He is passionate about my work, also skiing, skate skiing, cycling and curling. Dr. McKim trained in Internal Medicine in Ottawa and then Respirology in Winnipeg under Magdy Younes, doing Proportional Assist Ventilation and Exercise research. He joined the Internal Medicine staff of the Ottawa Hospital in 1990 and Respiratory Rehab in 1993.
DR. JACKIE CHIANG
Site Lead, The Hospital for Sick Children
Dr Jackie Chiang, is a Paediatric Respirologist, who completed her medical degree at the University of Ottawa, followed by a Paediatric residency at the University of Toronto. She subsequently completed a Paediatric Respirology fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in 2014. Dr. Chiang currently holds a joint position at the Hospital for Sick Children and Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.
DR. ROGER GOLDSTEIN
Site Lead, West Park Rehabilitation Hospital
Dr Roger Goldstein, is a Head Respirologist at West Park Healthcare Centre. He is the Professor of Medicine and Physical Therapy, University of Toronto and the founding NSA Chair in Respiratory Rehabilitation Research. His research and clinical interests are focused in the management of chronic respiratory diseases.
DR. SHERRI KATZ
Site Lead, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario
Dr Sherri Katz, is the Division Chief of Paediatric Respirology at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. She is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and holds a cross-appointment at the School of Epidemiology, Public Health and Preventative Medicine. She is also a Senior Scientist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Her clinical research focuses on the use of assistive respiratory technologies for children with chronic diseases, particularly neuromuscular disease and obesity.

MARK THOMPSON
Project Team
Mark Thompson is a Respiratory therapist with over 10 years’ experience helping patients to overcome breathing difficulties and enhancing their quality of life. Mark has worked extensively in the home care environment, with experience in sleep therapy and home oxygen through all patient populations. Mark has also worked in collaboration with physicians, nurses, social workers and palliative care teams in discharge planning throughout all Ottawa hospitals.
MR. ADAM QAZI
Project Team
Dr. Adam Qazi is the Research Co-ordinator at Child Health Evaluative Sciences at The Hospital of Sick Children. He has a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelors of Surgery. Dr. Adam aims to integrate IT with Health Care to ensure ready and easy access to health care for patients.
MS. MUNAZZAH AMBREEN

Ms. Munazzah Ambreen received her MD from Karachi, Pakistan and completed a Masters of Science in Human Genetics from McGill University. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Research Methodology in Clinical Sciences. She has a vested interest in healthcare utilization research, knowledge translation, implementation and AI.
NISHALI PATEL
Project Team
Nishali Patel is a Clinical Research Coordinator at the SickKids Research Institute. She graduated with her MSc in Health Policy and Finance from the London School of Economics/London School of Hygiene in 2017, and her research interests include implementation science, systems thinking, and access to integrated people-centred health services.
